Olympic Torch Bearer
*English below

I have really exciting news to tell you today.
I was selected as a torch bearer for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.
It’s the greatest honor for me and I’m really appreciative of the opportunity to run in Fukushima prefecture.
After hearing that the 2020 Olympics will be held in Tokyo, it’s been an ambition of mine to do something associated with the Games.
I’m delighted that Fukushima prefecture has been confirmed as a venue for the baseball and softball games, and that the torch relay would start from Fukushima before heading to the final destination, Tokyo.
The 2020 Olympic Games has been importantly labeled the “Reconstruction Olympics”.
The Great East Japan Earthquake and Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant accident occurred in 2011 where many people died in the subsequent Tsunami and thousands of residents were forced to leave their homes due to radiation.
Since the disaster, people of Fukushima have continuously endeavored to recover their beautiful home.
There are still some evacuation zones even though more than 8 years have passed, but the zone has been decreased in size through continuous decontamination work and the development of infrastructure.
Residents as well as companies have returned and many have began a new life.
The affected areas are surely proceeding and revitalization is continuing step by step.
There are many attractive points to Fukushima prefecture;
the colorful and beautiful nature through all four seasons, the delicious local products such as peach and sake,
but most importantly, the peoples’ positivity and warmth.
We have faced several atrocities and difficulties over the years including the 2011 disaster and the mass flooding caused by Typhoon No. 19 this autumn.
But the people here have never given up, and have always helped each other, and moved forward.
I learned the philosophy of life aspects and values from them.
As a reporter, I have covered the torch relay invitation project in Fukushima.
The route was designed to pass affected coastal area to show the current situation and recovery from the disaster. And of course, the trail runs through various tourist attractions and historical locations.
I deeply believe that this is the best opportunity to show the “real Fukushima” to the world.
The torch bearing will start on the 26th of March, 2020.
I promise to run with appreciation and love for Fukushima.
